Artist Statement

Eleanor Mountford (b.2002) is a multi-disciplinary artist currently working in South Wales. Their work exists in the weird and eerie corners of the world. Playing with surreal imagery across a range of mediums, they seek belonging, grief, and abjection. A fervent scavenger, they harvest imagery and materials from their surroundings, leaving their work in a transient, festering state. They find comfort in that which is used and decaying, aiming to confront consumerist waste by breathing new life into the old and forgotten. Inspired by churches, old tiling, cast iron craft, and oddities from the natural world, they channel flesh forms with chains and weaponry into unholy, sacrificial spaces. Here, they offer sanctuary the uncanny, the undesirable, and the wretched.
