Pelagic Memorial

Shown with Tactile Bosch as part of Fist Inside The Velvet Glove

“Pelagic Memorial” is an installation comprising of both archival and new works in a state of suspense. Meticulous biro drawings sit in scavenged frames which have been adorned with rusting found objects. Inspired by visits to churches and graveyards, the figures in the drawings enact varying stages of dissecting sea creatures, yet appear tranquil. An arm and a spine stitched from old sheets, bursting at the seams with sand, sit on a bed of ashes from long forgotten flames. Etched into these ashes are intricate patterns, pulled from the borders of the drawings. Rusty chains hang from the ceiling, lifting a fish into the air. Pieced together with old rags, disintegrating clothes, modroc and latex, it bleeds onto the floor. Borrowed imagery and lost memories are woven into an alcove where time and place dissolve, offering refuge to our weird and eerie convictions.
